Switchfoot and Relient K Raise $100,000 for Habitat for Humanity
Jan 2008 - The multiplatinum selling Christian rock band, Switchfoot,
together with Relient K finished their 34-city Appetite for Construction
Tour, a fundraiser for the nonprofit organization, Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate poverty housing by providing
subsidies and low interest loans to lower income families in exchange for
sweat equity, their participation in the building process.
After the end of the tour, Switchfoot proved that they can swing a hammer
(almost) as well as a drumstick or a guitar. The band for their own sweat
into the building projects when they put down the instruments and picked up
tools to personally work in the construction of the houses.
A refreshing change, if you ask me, from celebrities throwing money at
worthy causes without being willing to make a personal investment.
Switchfoot, together with Relient K, also recorded a song for the tour,
"Rebuild," which the band makes available as a free download from their
website, www.switchfoot.com/rebuild. In exchange, fans are asked to donate funds
or their time to Habitat for Humanity.
